I'm thinking about installing seat belts (ahhh, wife is insisting) in the '51 station wagon. I guess I figured the front seat lower cushion - the sit on part - would just pop out. Like in the back seat of a sedan. Apparently not so. Am I not understanding something??
I'm not excited about having to R and R the front seat. The seat belts will be anchored in floor, just behind/under the front seat. Any suggestions on getting the belts up thru the front seat??

Bill, The front seat is secured with 4 bolts holding the seat tracks in place .... 2 seat tracks, 2 bolts on either side. But I don't see the need to remove the seat. Seat belt provider normally sends a diagram of where to drill through the floor. Be CERTAIN, before doing any drilling, that the drill bit will not damage a fuel ine or brake line. When specific location is determined for where the holes are to be drilled, take a box cutter, make a "cross" cut on the carpet, so the drill bit doesn't snag the carpet and wrap it around the drill bit.

I installed front seat belts in my 1950 4 door which would be the same seat as a wagon. I passed the inner belts through the crack between the chshion and back rest. Very narrow space. I think I may have had to cut a little opening in the covering under where it can not be seen. The outer belts I looped around the side of the seat. The inner belt is ahchored to the floor next to the hump and straight down from rhw frame of the seat.

Thanks Bob and Gene. There doesn’t seem to be any way to slip a belt between the lower seat and the seat back. I’m not familiar with how the two are supposed to meet up, so I'm planning to go check out the only similar car out of several 100 cars in our Region. It’s a 50 sedan.
The interior in my car has been re-done and I suppose it’s possible the P.O. didn’t have it done exactly as original. The material on the back of my seat back covers (goes below) the lower seat. I can get my hand up under it; but can’t touch my other hand reaching in from the “crack” in the front. I sure hope the ’50 four door seats will shed some light on all this.

I’m concerned about that, so I hope I don't wind up having to cut anything.

Hey Bill, I will be adding seat belts (front & back) to my 54 210 and 32 LP this season. Brenda doesn't want me to do it but as the primary driver of these two Chevys, I am compelled to provide my occupants the degree of protection that lap belts will provide considering we drive combined 5K miles per season. I obtained my equipment from the FS and I will continue to follow this posting to help determine optimal positioning of this safety equipment in the 54 210.

I've kept this bookmarked on my computer for installation in my 50 styleline. this shows mounting in a 55 with a 3 point system but I figure it's good reference for any installation. http://www.julianos.com/how2_55chev.htmllater, Bill
