My 48 Fleetmaster is missing both of its side engine mounts. All I've got left on both sides are the two angle brakets mounted to the chassis rails. I believe that this is the reason I've had problems with my car jumping out of 3rd gear at speed. Can someone advise me on what parts I'm missing.

I'd check the front motor mounts. Might also want to pull the side cover and have a look inside. Once the side cover is off you could check the shift forks. Make sure you take a look in the service manual before you start taking it apart so you have a good idea what your getting into. Don

Don:

I'll check the front engine mounts as you suggested. I'm going to hold off on the trannys internals for the time being because the PO had the tranny rebuilt. I've sorted out the column shift mechanism because I had problems last Summer with the car trying to go into 1st/reverse on a 2nd/3rd shift. I've also eliminated the vacuum shift mechanism because it was worn out/operating erractically/leaking vacuum, and, installed a conversion kit. The car now shifts great, but, occasionally jumps out of 3rd if I'm on the interstate and at speed. However, now, she'll go right back in 3rd gear, and, I don't have to coast off the road and fumble around with the gear shift to sort things out.
