N.C.A. has a floor shift available, but it would be nice for you to figure out what's wrong with the column shifter, not all that complicated.
Do you own a 49 to 53 service manual with the 54 sdupplement? Well worth the $20 or $25 to buy it. You could spend the same amount on aspirins without the manual !
1951 Chevy Styleline Deluxe 2 door sedan / purchased from second owner 6-19-2000.

What's the shifter doing or not doing?? Fairly simply to work on. Am sure someone here will be able to help you. Just my humble opinion, but normally easier to fix than switch.
Best to ya.
Jim.

Sometimes things just get gummed up. If you use some penetrating oil on the rod that goes into the top of the shifter box that may help. Also check the shifter support collar in front of the steering wheel and make sure that its not stripped out. Don

Virg,
If you are talking about the shift housing (box) on steering jacket under hood, they list the same from 49-53. Most everything is the same with stick shift from what I can see. If you think that the problem is in that box, try taking off the cover and looking inside and you will see how it all works.
Best to ya.

I pulled the seering wheel and took out the old shifter, the threads on the clamp up by the wheel were all stripped, the 52 rod was longer so couldn't use it, just used the clamp on the colum but for some reason the 2 screw holes are in a diff. locatin. I haven't redrilled the holes in the colum yet but I guess I will have to. Will get back on it today to see if that is what I have to do...thanks....Virg

The part number for the upper support is 3686806. It should be the same for '49 to '52. The part number should be stamped on the part. If you look at it as you were sitting in the drivers seat the part number will be on the bottom of the circle. Its hard to see but its there. Don

You may have to adjust the upper support. Its explained in the shop manual.
