My 1938 Master has a generator with a tag showing model 322-52. Is that correct for this car? I searching this site, the CHEVROLET MASTER PARTS PRICE LIST (Six-Cylinder Models) 1929 - 1941, a parts supplier, etc., all with no luck. By the way, the reason I'm asking, I have an electrical problem. My battery won't stay charged (I've had it checked out as OK). My ammeter fluctuates from D to C. I figure it must be the generator, or more likely, the voltage regulator. My regulator is a replacement, with no markings at all. So, before I can buy a regulator for a 1938, I want to ensure that I actually have the right generator.

Some of the old timers say they use to adjust the stock regulater to 7 or 8 volts and get a 8 volt battery. Everything seem to work better. DON'T do that until some of our experts agree with that change. I've seen that on several forums about 6 volt cars or the 30s and 40s,but that may actually harm something, again check with someone who knows for sure.

Thanks. I saw that, but it didn't occur to me to call them. I'll do that. I've bought parts from them. Say, do you know where the actual part number is? Is it maybe on the generator's underside?

Sorry, I walked away from my computer for a while. My generator has a tag on top, but the only number is the Model 322-52. Looking at it more closely, that tag also has a comment "Delco", but then it says it was remanufactured for General Motors by an independent remanufacturer. So, now I don't even know whose model 322-52 it is; all this time I thought it was a Chevrolet number. I'll keep trying to figure it out, I guess.

Thanks a lot. There's a number on the end of mine. I'm going to have to pull off the generator to see it, I think. Thanks again. Kyle

The 322-52 number you are referring to is a Delco Reman number. It covers many different Delco long numbers. It is a 6V generator. Let me know if I can help you out in any way. I specialize in rebuilding starters and generators for the antique car market.
