Hey everyone, is there a way to tell if a 1962 Impala came with a 409"? I have no idea howe to decode, or what to look for on the cowl tag.

Thanks for any input!

Bob

Nothing as obvious as the tag will tell you if it was originally a 409.

This may help:

The simplest way is if the original engine wirng harness is there and it has 2 wires going to a ballast resistor on the firewall. There are numerous other clues but those can all be faked if the car has been restored.
