I am considering mounting a electronic contant voltage regulator in my 1934 Master Delco Remy 935B Generator.

A gentelman named James Peterson from Orgeon makes electronic constant voltage regulators that mount inside the generator brush cover so nothing is noticable.

Thse units will supply a constant voltage and adjust the charging rate so undercharging/overcharging is no longer a issue.

Cost is around $100

I can understand why many people do not run modern improvements in their old cars such as synthetic oil, electronic ignition, etc but this seems like a wonderful thing to have in a old car for anyone that wants to really drive.

Thoughts?

Thanks - Jeff

If your considering that then i would go ahead and consider an alternator of your voltage. Cosmetically no, it wouldnt be correct. But Your charging system would thank you, in more ways then one.

I have driven my 1934 Master many thousands of miles with the original charging system and never had a problem. The 1934 Master has a great feature where you can increase the day time charging rate by pulling out the light switch button 1/2 notch. I would use this feature if the car had been sitting for a period of time and the battery could ude a little extra boost.

Gene, How are you?
Was that feature only on the 1934 Masters? Were there other years? The reason I am asking is on my 36 Master when I pull the light switch to the first notch there is nothing 2nd notch is parking lights and the third (all the way out) head lights.
I was just wondering if that first notch is what you are talking about? Ken

This feature was on 1934-1937 Masters ( Master Deluxe 35-36-37)
The half of a notch is between off and the parking light position. There is no "offical" notch but just try it with the engine running at a fast idle and the ammeter should jump up to almost 20 amps with no eletrical things "on".

I have run a James Peterson regulator in 1928 and 1931 generator for many years. Has worked well. Initially had a problem but called James and we worked out problem. He recommends replacing a the cutout guts with a diode. I have used the original cutout without problems. It does take so rpm to activate the generator but after that it works well.
