The starter on my 1953-235 six is a 6 volt Delco-remy # 1107061 7M13. what year is the starter from and would it be a four pole higher torque starter motor...thanks...Ron. 1938 master business coupe 235_six.

I couldn't find the listing for that number except in my cross reference and it listed it as a Heavy Duty 4 Field Starter. Not much help. Neil G.

I just found something on the internet where it said this number was for a '48 Chevrolet truck with 216 engine. Neil G.

My old remy parts book shows that number fitting trucks from 46-48. The number was then changed to 1107108 which fit up to 1953. The code date could be Dec 13, 1947 which would match.

I checked cars and the 1107061 is also shown to fit 46, 47 and early 48 Chevrolet cars.

thanks guys, that's some good information. the 53 engine has a 7.1 compression ratio and 108 hoarse power. do you think this starter would be powerful enough to start up a 261 with a 8.1 compression using six volts? if not then what starter would be the best to get,but i still want to be able to use my foot pedal to engage the starter motor. i have a 261 here and if i can get it running ok i would put it in the car for long distance cruising. i have the interior out of the car now,all the sheet metal off the front and the torque tube rear end out also to give it a complete rebuild and install the 3.55 gear set i have on hand. i wish i had got my car many years before i did as i am really enjoying this restoration. i will post some pictures later on ...thanks again...Ron.

Have you considered moving to 12 volts? That is a popular option and usually the 6 volt starter is used as is. It really spins on 12 volts.
My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .

If you find you have a problem starting and have determined that the cables are large enough, terminals clean then you may want to try a '54 starter. They produce more torque than earlier versions.

Chipper, that is interesting about the 1954 starter. Would it be that they enhanced the starter to cope with the higher compression ratios?

I think what Chipper was referring to was the special 4 field starters that were available for the PG cars. I don't have the tag number readily available, but the parts book will supply it.
