Has anyone purchased the 1934 Master hub caps from Bill Hirsch? I am curious about their quality. His add says "show quality". E-mail me if you like. Thanks.

I don't have the Bill Hirsch hub caps but have seen them. They are great. The only thing is that they don't use the base with the chrome plated brass skin clamped over.On the car they look like the originals.I am sure that you would be happy with them dance

I do have the replacement skins on mine-they are no longer being reproduced but also were excellent.I also have the 17" Bill Hirsch trim rings.Paid $17.00 each for them many years ago-great quality also. wink

Folks: On a sorta related subject, I have been looking for hubcaps for my 34 Chev 1/2 ton. The only place I have ever seen them advertised is from Jim Carter. Has anyone ever seen these? Anyone know of any other sources?

Thanks wjb.

Bill, I can agree with Chevnut on the quality of the caps. I saw them at Hershey last fall and they looked very good to me. I spoke with Bill Hirsch and as I recall he had about 60-70 sets left. I believe he also sold some to other vendors also. I purchased 17" trim rings from him 25 years ago and they held up well. The hub cap skins ( I think I bought them from Jim McConville) also held up well over the years, but they are no longer on the market.

Bill Lutkowski had bought a set at Hershey this past year and his only complaint was that they could have been painted for the price he paid. I saw them and I think they looked great.

I bought 6 of them last year, they look very good. The "skin" wraps around the retainer ring very nicely. If Bill tries to sell you one he says "fits a little loose" and wants to save you a couple of bucks, pass. I took one that "fit a little loose" and it was so loose that if you had made a clock out of it, it would'nt have stayed on the wall! You should ask that each one you buy has been checked that the retainer ring is of proper size. He also saved me a couple of bucks when I took him up on an offer to take 2 caps that "had the tiniest flaw in the chrome, you won't even see it". On that he was right, they came with the flaw circled with marker, mine is just a driver so I'm happy. It's still alot of $$.

Right! I bought a set of 1930-32 hubcaps from Bill and he also told me that they might fit "just a little loose". He was right.......all four of them fell off of the car........and that was before it even left the garage!

He also told me that "these caps are made by the same company that made them back in 1930". When I received the caps, each cap was stamped on the back "Made In Japan"! Hum......I guess the original company moved!

This isn't exactly on topic but I have a chance to buy some Chevrolet wheels with blackwall tires that I was considering useing for touring the 28, they are 18 inch.

Wwhat year did Chevrolet have 18 inch wire wheels? and what year and size hubcaps do they use, are they Master or Standard??
I looked in the Coker Tire website and didn't find any 18 inch tires listed for Chevrolet.

1932, 1933 Master (or Eagle) and 1/2 ton truck used 18" wire wheels. The caps are all the same size.

Chevy Nut,More info on hubcaps,After all this talk I checked with Bill Hirsch web site and looked at his 34 hubcaps. They looked different than what I was looking for, so emailed him to see if there was error with the picture in his catalog, he said the picture was correct. I sent him a picture of the ONE I have so he could compare. He said he didn't have any like that. I looked at some G&D's for hubcaps and found ones like need on: 35 std coup,36 1/2 ton panel & 35 master 4 dr.Ones like he pictured, with the textured center out side the Bowtie, are shown on a 34DA Cabriolet & 35 master sedan. The 36 master coupe on the back cover of Aug 03 are like what I should have, except, these wheels are steel and hold on different than wire wheels. Maybe I should just buy what bill has to sell! Babes Like Chevy trucks dance

The 1934 Master passenger car and truck hub caps are the same. They are different from the 1935-36 Master hub caps as they are deeper (stick out farther) which is necessary to clear the long spindles on the original 1934 knee action units. All 1934's have the textured circle around the bow tie-the 1935-36 Masters do not. They also have the black painted band about 1" from the outside.(Hirsch's come unpainted) The 1935-36 Master hub caps look the same for either the wire ot steel artillary wheels-but are of slightly different sizes and attach differently. The Standard hub caps are much smaller and flatter.
The 1934 Master Hirsch hub caps are correct for '34.
