VCCA Home Forums TECHNICAL - 1945 AND NEWER 1965-1970 4 POST LIFT

Question to the membership, I have two 1969 Impala Custom Coupe's and due to garage space, I would like to purchase a 4 post lift. Just wondering if any of the VCCA membership could suggest a certain brand? I'm not looking for something cheap, but I don't need a commercial grade either... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Steve, I have an Autolifter four post that I have had for 8-9 years. I liked the way it was built after looking at a number of them. I think though that the company was sold to some one else, but I think that they are still making the same style lift. I could sent you some pictures of mine and explain why I like it if you want. Mine it extra wide and it is 6'4" clear when it is up. I can put my 72 Chevy PU on it without folding in the side mirrors. It is rated at 6000 lbs. I have a four post lift made by Backyard Buddy. I like it, it is built in the USA. It dose not need to be mounted to the floor. If you order some of the bells and whistles you can move it when the car is on it in the down position and on a cement floor. Also it has good safety features.

I haven't seen a 4 post lift that won't walk a bit, if it isn't anchored to the floor when a car is lowered and driven off then another driven on and lifted up and then let down. Check the lift ever once in a while after you get it setup and like you want it, spray paint or use some tape to mark the original position of the legs and monitor then and you use the lift for repair work, If the legs tend to twist around on the floor, If you don't anchor them to the floor with two anchor bolts on each leg. Better safe than sorry....if the legs aren't anchoredbe sure to move them back to the original spots.
If you have one with the casters I hope that they work better than the ones I have seen.

Mr Mack I will check for movement of my lift but I have not had any problem with it that I could see. Two of the post are close to a second floor storage area so I sure think I would have noticed movement. Maybe it might be because I ordered longer drive up ramps so the car dose not push that much on driving onto the lift.

I have had my four post lift for 8-9 years and never had a problem with it moving. The only time it did move was when we had a pretty good earth quake and the whole thing moved forward about an inch with a 4400lb car up in the air.

The lift doesn't move when the car is driven up on it, but after you get it in raised place and release the pressure on the cables and put forces on the vehicle jacking the engine or transmission up and that kind of stuff. or when you use the casters to move the lift and car around. and then only a fraction of an inch, because the posts are lifted off the floor, make sure they are straight when you remove the casters.

Hey Mr Mac apparently I cant View your stuff so hopefully I can get ahold of you this way. I was Wanting to see If I could come by some time and check out your car. Chip said you werent too far away from abilene where I live. Also maybe you could learn me a thing or two about these cars.
