I have had the reflectors re-silvered by Uvira, Inc., I have had the generator rebuilt and I am currently replacing the wiring harness. Where can I find a source for the 50 / 32 headlight bulbs?

The Filling Station carries a replacement bulb for the 1936 Standard and Master. Part number CR-2320, with a flange base. Since this is supposed to be a replacement, the candle power would be 32/21. Snyders Antique Auto, a F**d supplier, carries a 50/32 CP bulb. Part number A-13007-D. This bulb does not appear to have a flange base though, so it may not fit.

I have two boxes of NOS Westinghouse Mazda 32/32 bulbs I found at a yard sale, 20 bulbs. I might just try two new ones to see if it is bright enough since doing all the other work.

No matter what candlepower the bulbs are, make sure the beams are aimed properly, and you have tested good grounding to the sockets. A headlight relay can help some by shortening the length to the bulbs. some pre-focused bulbs are focused for different set-ups so find the right ones for your car.

Hi
If you car uses the flange type base they are pre-focused bulbs, here is the part number #2531 they are 50 / 32 candle power in the pre-focused flange type bulb. You can see some types of bulbs available at the link below. I think they are extremely expensive on this site, you can probably find some on eBay or a local swap meet at a much better price. Something to look for. Light Bulb Web Site

I think the correct number for GM cars - 50/32 - is 2530. 2531 is for Chrysler cars. I used 2530 years ago when I had my '38 Chev Master Deluxe coupe and when I put the brights on it made them a lot brighter....

Hi Mike33,

It doesn't appear that the 1933 had different CP for the high and low beams. According to the Parts book, the replacement was either a 21-21 CP bulb (No. 1110), or a 32-32 CP bulb (No. 1000). In either case, the high and low beam would each have the same brightness, just a different light pattern.

Chevrolet never used or sold the 32-50 CP bulbs. Years ago the cars came with 21-21, then 21-32, then 32-32 (in the flange type bulbs.) A 1933 with the 12 amp generator would not have enough amp out-put to carry the 50 cp bulbs. That would have been equal to have four head lamps on at one time. The generator is lucky to cover two 32 CP bulbs and the tail light.

The boxes of bulbs I have are all Westinghouse and have 2330 32/32 C Prefocused on the ends. I noticed that the 2531, prefocused 50/32 bulb on the Light Bulb Web Site that ab buff recommended, have the slots in the flange reversed from the 2330s I have. Would that put the 50 CP in the low beam position?

I was also surprised at the cost of the 2330 bulbs. I think I paid $2 for 18 of them at a yard sale!

Hi

Black Bird, I wasn't recommending the #2531's I just noticed them on the web site. I think the #2530's that PDXjoe mentioned are what he is looking for and would be a good one to try if his generator will keep up. I guess that depends on how much night driving he plans on doing. Mike33, your 1933 does not use the the flanged style bulb like the #2530 but uses a bulb similar to a tail light bulb, push in and turn. I think the stock bulb is a #1110 21/21 candle power. a lot of people run the #1000 32/32 candle power for a little brighter light and then there is the #1188 50/32 candle power.
