Took the oil filter out for my spare '49 engine and it was a C-21 Fram. Did a search and didn't find anything. Being it's metal on the out side can I just reclean it and use it over or do I need a new one?

I think I'm a fairly wise person because I'm smart enough to realise I'm not too bright.

Since it's a spare, you could just put it back in. Don't see what that would hurt. Just buy a new one for the day you decide to use the engine again!

Cross reference for a C21 Fram:

Wix 51100
CarQuest 81500

Although the filter unit has a metal exterior the inside contains the filtering material. The outside has many holes which allow the oil to enter.
