I have a "66" Impala convertible. VIN is 164676T268797. I have been told that this is a 'split year' for car production. Based on the VIN can anyone tell me the approximate date of production for this car. I am also told that this info is critical when ordering a replacement top.

As always, thanks for the help.

Dennis,

Here is the decode of the VIN

1 = Chevrolet

64 = Impala 8 Cyl.

67 = Convertible 2-door

6 = 1966

T = Assembly in Tarrytown, NY

268797 = the serial number.

They built ~ 621,800 V-8 Impalas in 1966.

The cowl tag should have two numbers followed be a letter. That tells you when the body was assembled. (11= November B = second week)

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Jim M.

If you want to post the cowl tag info, we can decode that too.
