Hello friends overthere,
1st: My "new" 1940 runs great and is lot of fun! 2nd: I try to help a fellow here in germany to register and get licensed a 1929 four door sedan, restoration since 2004 now completed. We must get a true identification of that car. Unfortunately the plate (tag) with the serial number got lost anytime during last 80 years. We know:
Fisher job 8850 (4 door sedan?) Body 14947
Motor stamped number 949366 casting 835501 F 259 7
If the system is same as at my 1931 I had before, I should understand the casting date is June 25th 1929. Am I right? We must "create" a possible car serial number to make a serial number plate. Of course that number can be just fake and fantasy, but the original number is lost and gone forever, and without a number the car cannot get back on street. Never. So my idea (a bit aside the law) is: Feed the dog (registration office) with any self created fantasy number matching to the existing motor number and the dog wont bite and give the car a registration and license plate. After 80 years the chance to create a number of a car still existing without noticing is below zero I guess... In case the motor is a june 1929 make, who can help me to create a car serial number not far from that date?
Best regards Stefangermany

The number stamped on the block is the number on my title. I was told that is how they did it back in the day. The car serial number on my other tag doesn't seem to line up with the motor numbers at all, I don't know if it is supposed to. I do know that The car is titled off the stamped number on the block though. Hope this helps

If the officials will not take the engine number then a car number can be created. There are a few people on eBay that offer the plates and can stamp the number before they send it to you. I think that you have to supply the number to them.
