I finally got around to measuring the cylinder bore of the 1927 engine I've been restoring, believe it or not, the bore is just 4-5/1000 over original new engine spec's, original owner must have gone through a whole tank of gas before he parked it in 1927!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

purchased all new valves (fillingstation)and having guides installed (I know original had none) and resurfaced. I will be painting (EGGE or Fillingstation) the head and block this weekend once i measure the bore's again and see if just honing will surfice or if I should bore to 10/1000 to be consistent up and down and between cylinders

Have taken extensive pictures as I've been progressing, hope to create a web site when I'm done to help first time future 171 rebuilders with pic's

Does VCCA have a picture server someplace?? or a library of digitized literature for us "new bees" ?? e-bay manuals are expensive!!

You should get a hard copy of the repair and owners manual, though. It's tough trying to read the laptop whilst lying under the motor with oil dripping in your face.

Good luck with your project,

I have some manuals or printouts of manuals, I was hoping to find a web site or something that had actual pictures of different operations, start to finish. I organized by pic's so far and I plan on organizing them on a web so others can benefit from my frustration of locating some info.

thanks for the encouragement.

Ron, I've got a '26 Coach and looking for someone to pour new babbit bearings in my 171 here in Colorado.
Any help with a source would be appreciated. Just didn't want to ship it back east.

I have talked to a engine builder in the Denver area that mostly does Model T and A engines but said he also can do Chevys. Not sure about him and can't remember the name of the company. Maybe one of the VCCA members in the area has had experience with him. I have had Paul's do work for me and several other VCCA members. All have been satisfied with the work.

How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!
