Who makes a body wood kit for a 4 dr. '31 Chevy? I only need the body as the doors are in great shape.

Thanks

Jim Rodman supplies wood kits for Chevs. I don't have any personal experience with him, but have heard nothing but good comments about his product.

He is located in northwest Indiana.

Jim sells kits as well as individual pieces so you can get only what you need. I have purchased from him and his stuff is first rate, probably better than original.

I was happy with Jim. Had good instructions. I'm sure there are others out there. Here's a picture of mine going together. That's Vern, the guy who helped me.

Can I ask you how to put a picture in here? I read the "help," but I don't understand how from their instructions.

My unrestored car 31 coupe came with what was supposed to be a complete wood kit. It was not complete, and several of the pieces were incorrectly cut. After talking to Bill Cartwright in Virginia, I ordered several wood pieces from him and was very pleased. He assisted me by phone, and with his measurements, we figured out which pieces were incorrect. My car is now complete, and the doors and trunk work very well.

I don't know who made the kit. I know it had lots of incorrectly cut pieces though. When I brought the car home, I filled an enclosed trailer with the body clamped to the chassis, and a thousand pieces stacked around them. It was a basket case that required a very large basket. I do know that Bill Cartwright had the knowledge to reesolve all the problems and send me correctly cut wood.

Sounds like the wood kit was probably made by Fiberglass and Wood in Nashville, Georgia. Their wood kits were garbage and thankfully they went out of business a few years ago.

In 1984 I bought a wood kit from Fiberglass & Wood for a 1931 Cabriolet, the Tucumcari junkyard car that needed three parts cars to complete the chassis. All the parts fit correctly except the lock pillars and window regulator boards.

Years ago I received a phone call from a VCCA member with a 1930 Chevrolet. He had a technical question regarding a wood kit that he had just purchased from Fiberglass & Wood. He wanted to know what he was supposed to do with all of the tree bark that was still attached to the wood pieces!
