As soon as ny health allows me, I will be installing a new distributor in my confederate,my question is what seals the base of distributor to the block. Is it a gasket or an o ring or both. I looked through all my books an did not find a picture of it or any information on it.

Thanks for any help that you can give me

There is only a washer like spacer between the oil pump and bottom of the distributor. No seals or o-rings. If the parts are not worn too much there will be no oil leakage.
