The coupe tank is NOT diferent from the "OTHER" 38 models. It is the same as the 38 sedan delivery. It holds 18 gallon while the other models hold 14 gallons...Please read up on your car... Please...ED

ALL ebay venders selling gas tanks say their tanks will fit all 38 chevys BUT a coupe. The Filling Station and Chevysofthe40s ads say the coupe tank is different. The shape of the neck is different according to the guys I've asked. The coupe tank and delivery tank may be interchangeable but the coupe tank is hard to find. Check it out.

Filling station part number ...TK-7 ( will not fit coupe )

Buy a standard tank and see if you can make it fit, that would be a great post, you might find a way to say us coupe guys some money. I said the coupe tank is different from the rest...it is (the delivery may be an exception). I forget about the deliverys, they're sorta rare.

The Sedan Delivery is part of "THE REST". Chevy of the 40's ad should read " WILL NOT FIT BUSINESS COUPE OR SEDAN DELIVERY" That's why folks get confused with ordering parts from a lot of suppliers and end up paying to much for shipping charges (have to send it back) These suppliers should give a more concise description of there products. I read allot ,on this forum, people complaining that they bought something from the FS or CFTF'S and the part did not fit. I bought a clutch return spring from Chevy of the 40's and it wasn't even close. if they had basic measurements of it on the ad I would not have bought it...All I am saying is things should not be described with a "Broad Brush" it confuses folks....ED

The sedan delivery is not the rest. The sedan delivery and coupe are in one group and everything else is the "rest". One tank fits sedan deliveries and coupes and the other style tank fits all other 1938 chevrolet cars. Call chevysofthe40s they'll explain it to you.

When I got my 38 coupe, several years back, the fuel tank was missing. Finally found a good one on Ebay after about a years' search, but I have found it was easier to locate than the 3-way angle iron that ties the plywood together at the front of the tank.

I talked to several vendors about the tank and no one had a ready built one. You could order one built from Tanks and some had plastic. So, I'm happy I finally found a good used one. The sending unit was the only thing bad and I did have to "fish" out some small pieces of metal someone had dropped into the tank. I did paint it with some Eastwood fuel tank paint even though there was no rust.

I don't see many on Ebay for the coupe.

I think the whole reason for the initial post has been lost in the argument over what the tank actually fits. I can't get the link to load but I'm assuming it's a link to a tank that's for sale. If that's so thanks to Steve for posting a link to what is indeed a hard to find part. I for one appreciate your effort to help. Addendum: Chevs has a SS tank they say will fit the coupe and sedan delivery but it's a 20 gal tank so some fab may be needed AND you'd better have deep pockets. <CLICK>
