i just got a 69 chevy truck,the engine is not orig.but i cant figure its # out.the block is stamped ce954059.could you please help. one site says ce stands for crate engine.please help,thans jack

I think that is a replacement engine.

CE is Chevrolet Engineering & the 9 indicates 1969. It was probably warranteed early in it's life...Joe

thanks,i said truck,should have said pickup.i/2 ton long bed.was wondering what size also.i'm the third owner but the fisrt has passed,the second have owned it many years and they are [confused]?they were freinds with 1st,and know he replaced it,but said it was 396?427?and they took all emblams to the dump!geez it was cst now all chrome is missing.but it is straight.thanks again

It is probably a 396 or a 402 depending on the casting number & casting date. Most likely a 402 because of casting problems late in 1969. My Aug 69 built ss396 Camaro is a 402 from day 1.

A 396 had the conventional spark plugs with a gasket.
The 402 had gasketless plugs with the tapered seat.

The 69 402 has gasketed spark plugs. 70 had tapered. Most people think the 402 came out in 70. They actually came out late 1969...Joe

thanks guys ,tommorow i,ll pull a plug and see if i can see the casting #,it is on back of block correct? i did clean off the glove box sticker,il came as a 396.thanks again,jack
