Just a wild guess..... tensioner for the door handle to return to original position.

Hi Al, According to the Fisher Body Service Manual 1926-1932, page 119, the bracket appears to be used to support an arm rest: The bracket ("A" in Illustration No.235) is used as a support for the arm rest which is part of the trim assembly. Dan
