I have a '58 Chevy Bel Air passenger car. I replaced the cable that turns the milage counter doesn't change. I unscrewed the cap that holds the cable in place to see if it was turning and it is. Is there a way to lubricate the indicators without taking it apart? Are they known to freeze up from sitting long period of time and exposed to moisture of air? I first thought that it would of worked itself out and maybe start to change the counter.

Before the unit is damaged, I suggest you remove the speedometer head and take it to a speedometer shop for professional attention.

I don't have experience with that one, but sometimes the clip that holds the gear assembly in place slips out and allows the assembly to move away. In the 60 Corvair it is a little cardboard clip. much more probable than freezing up.

Doesn't hurt to look at it and make sure everything is in its place.
