am doing some small part painting and my painter ask me how come the center mouldings(2 pcs)were painted and not made out of stainless i sad maybe GM wanted the hood bird and chevy pieces to stand out i told him i have seen guys chrome these pieces but that is not the way it came off the assembly line showed him photos and all stock pics had the parts painted body color any one have any other ideas on this thanks

The mouldings are painted, BUT there is a stainless moulding available ( one piece) if you choose not to use the hood ornament. Back in the 50's, this one piece moulding was known as a "bullnose moulding" ...gave the hood a sleek, custom look.

Back in the 50's, this one piece moulding was known as a "bullnose moulding" ...gave the hood a sleek, custom look. Where can you get a Stainless molding? All I can find are ones made from Aluminum. I want one for my 51 hood.

Is this a pick-up or a car? My '49 pickup is a deluxe and has both the center strip and the hood ornament. I only found an aluminum center strip available in polished or a steel one to be painted.
