I had purchased another door beleived to be from a chevy. I've had it some dings taken out and installed it on my chevy. It fits well and I didn't noticed that there isn't a "gear type slotted knob" to attach the inside door handle, so it can open. Like the two above it, one rolls down the window, the other opens the wing vent window. Am I not seeing where I can put the handle on? Sometimes another pair of eyes do help or maybe someone knows I have the wrong door??? Even after it fits.

What year and model of Chevrolet do you have?....BelAir, Impala, etc.

I have a question on a 58 chevy, it was exposed to the ocean sea air and has lots of rust and some places it is pretty much eaten up. I got a portion of the car down to the bare metal. I want to apply bondo to areas of concern, I am not a fabrication person. Is there a preventive application to apply before bondo to help not spread the cancer any more? Someone told me today that it is just a temporary method to use and that it will keep on rusting.

If the body is that bad, you probably shouldn't waste your time or money.

Most "bondo" is based on polyester resins. If any of the material is exposed to air they will absorb water which continues the rusting process. If you use epoxy based materials, which don't attract water, the repairs will be much more permanent. If you can coat all of the "bondo" with a water proofer then it will last much longer.

Get the repairs ready to prime. Have you considered using fibreglass cloth and rosin for the repairs? Any sanding or grinding operation should require a good eye and breathing safety protection gear. While you are doing the repair work do not wet the primer or bondo with water, keep it warm and dry, watch out for condensation, don't leave the repair sitting around for any length of time. Don't use any paint remover or rust remover in your shop after you start the repair job, if you do water vapor and condensation will seep into the repair. Next, use a good sealer primer or epoxy primer (two part)for the final primer coat, and spray a good one part or basecoat-clear coat paint. Don't forget to seal and paint he back side if possible. These repairs probably will last until you crash into something unless you live to be 100.
Keep it dry, keep it dry!

I have a 58 chevy bel air 2dr sedan,I purchased a dr side door from a salvage yard. It fits and opens and closes no problem. I was getting it ready to put a window in it and then noticed that it doesn't have a place for the dr handle to attach to. The side vent window and window crank has a place fot it. Is there a (and why should there be)a punch out I am not seeing?

Is it the door handle that opens the door from the inside or window crank that opens the window? If the later it probably was a door with a power window. Don't know why there was not a punch out.

It's the inside of the door where there isn't a place to attach a door handle. I have the handle on the outside already on and it works well. The door does have the place for the vent window to operate and for the window to go up and down. It wasn't an issue because I didn't have a window in it so I would just reach out and open the door using the outside push button door handle. I wish I'd noticed it when I bought it. Maybe I can just drill a port hole and somehow put something like a spring clip in it. Thanks for having me describe it better.

The 1958 door handle remote control, the "thing" that the door handle attaches to, is about a foot drom the bottom of the door and about a foot and a half from the front of the door
The remote control is attached to the door with 3 screws, one just to the front and one above and one below. The is just a small opening for the setm of the R.C. to poke thru so the handle can be attached. A rod runs from the remote control back to the lock. I suspect that the remote control is missing.

I was so worried about not seeing a port hole there, I should of realized there isn't even a stud there with the goves on it so the door handle could slip onto it.

Thanks I did receive the picture of the door. I need the door that has the stud already there for the door handle to attach to. I wish I'd looked for it when I first bought it. Don't know if I can rig this one up to open manually from inside.

I had my buddy take off the damaged door, and I had forgotten that he stripped off the hardware which I needed for the replacement door. It's been awhile so now I have to find the hardware to put on. My age is starting to show! However, the replacement door had a remote to it.
