I intend to have my 1946 truck judge at the Flint meet under the Factory restored category. This is my first meet.

During the judging phase, do the judges start the vehicle and make sure all electrical systems are working i.e. lights, turn signals, cigarette lighter, radio etc.?

Thanks,
Ken

I'm not sure once it is on the judging field they do not check light or start the cars but you have to go through a safety check be for you go on to the judging field and at that time your light are checked and for the proper fire extinguisher and of course you need to drive the car to the safety check and onto the judging field. If mine wrong someone will correct me.

No your truck will go to the operations check prior to the day that they do the judging. The pictures are usually taken right after the operations check.

Ken - Did you get the information you needed? Before your car/truck can enter the show field, it must go through the Field Entrance Check. At the Anniversary Meet, we will have opportunities to do this on several days before the judging on Wednesday. Your truck must be driven through the Field Entrance Check and it will be checked for proper operation of just about all it's electrical functions (lights, horn, wipers, blower motor, etc). I don't think we check cigarette lighters. Once your truck is on the judging field, nothing is operated. Hope this helps!

One of the best ways to get ready for Flint, is to contact your Area Director or a member of the Judging Committee and to ask for a Judging Manual. I believe that the VCCA is in the final stages of printing a newer edition. Our current Judging Manual has a blue covere and is dated 2008.

At the Field Entrance Check, you will be asked to put on your emergency brakes and attempt to move the vehicle forward. The entire field entrance check lasts usually less than 5 or 6 minutes. You will also be mandated to have a working fire extinguisher on the front passenger floor area. Usually at the Field Entrance Check, your vehicle is photographed for showing at the Awards Ceremony. The biggest mistake that many people make is that they forget to fill out their Judging Sheet with the pertinent information on it.

Andys29. Just to be clear we, VCCA, does not do a "Safety Check". We do not use that term for liability reasons. It is a "Field Entrance Check" just to see if everything works. I have been told to shut my engine down and start it again.

The Field Entrance Check was started after we experienced the fact that there were cars on the judging field that could not be started or run after the judging was completed.

Another reason is that many of the vehicle owners are judging and they can't be with thier vehicle to demonstrate that everything works.
