Hello,VCCA...Have a Question I thought I'd throw out there...Upon inspection of my engine block,I see two sets of serial #'s.(no, I'm not seeing double lol) The larger starts EAA (47 Flint,Mich.)Then there's a smaller overlapping # starting FA and looks like the factory might have had a hand in this (same style font/just smaller)Engine appears to have been rebuilt (light blue block)Otherwise, this Fleetmaster Sport Coupe is as Original as you'd ever find! Any Ideas? Folks over at H.A.M.B. don't seem to know! Any help Appreciated!

yep the EEA is for a 47 engine and the FA is for a 1948 engine. Looks like someone was playing a game.

I'll bet it is a replacement engine that was restamped to match the vehicle id number on the title. Most states used the engine serial number and not the car or vehicle serial number on titles until the VIN requirement was put into effect.

If its a 1948 block there will be a raised circle about the size of a old silver dollar with a 48 in the center behind the fuel pump..
There will be a raised casting number low on the right side of the block between the fuel pump and distributor. It will have 6 or 7 number and begin with either a 8 or a 3.

The larger and original "looking" serial # is also the # that appears on the Title...Why a second # was added is perplexing...Perhaps the engine was installed in another vehicle and re-stamped to satisfy Dept.of Motor Vehicles, then returned to the original car at a later date, for some bizarre reason! Keep in mind this is in California! lol

Between the fuel pump and distributor there is a large raised GM and below a raised casting number 839770...alas no raised circle
