Well, Spring is Springing...hopefully, and its soon time to get the old car on the road, for the first time (for me). I figured I should have an emergency box with tools and some supplies. So I found an old paper beer case dating back to the early 30's and thought that would go in great with the old car. I got some freeby tools at Harbor Freight and paid a couple bucks for a set of wrenches while I was there. I was hoping to spend around $20 and came in well under budget. I figure its cheap insurance to keep them just for the car so I have them when I need them. I picked up a set of box end wrenches, screwdriver set, wire cutters, channellocks, slipjoints, test meter, gloves, and a handle for a hammer head I had lying around all to put in the car, all for $11. Also picked up a storage container with little divisions that I have cotter pins, a couple nails and screws and springs, wire nuts, elec tape, some fuses, a small assortment of nuts and bolts, some bulbs, some hose clamps, and a few feet of wire. I also put an extra set of plugs, a can of carb cleaner, water and antifreeze, oil, baleing wire (for the farmer in me) a length of nylon rope, some rags, emery boards, and a funnel. Also a pen, pencil, sharpie and a notepad. The storage container and beer case is about half full with room left for alot of other supplies. (No the beer case aint THAT big)

My question to you is, what would you never do without when you look in your car toolbox. What am I severely missing, or do you say "Crap, I really could use..."?

Come back!

Duck Tape! Or Duct Tape. The "handyman's secret weapon". Seems there was a discussion in another forum about the correct spelling and origins of this invaluable item. I've also heard that on every space shuttle mission, two rolls were always carried.
You might also look in the General Discussion forum under Road Trip Check Off List to see what other folks carry with them.
After a little repair work on the electric starter, I fired up the coupe this past weekend and went for about a 20 mile cruise.

Happy Motoring,

Dan

ignition wrenches, water pump packingnut wrench, jack and tire tools, patch kit and tire pump, a pick to pick out what ever punctures the tire. I like to have a tarp strap or two as you just never know when you will need one! Just a few things to add to your list. If you want a really good list get a copy of the 1918 Dykes automobile encyclopedia and in the section of "touring the Lincoln Highway" it has a list of needed supplies down to the right kind of underwear! Now that was good reading!

Hey Chris!, No I didn't forget about Rusty. Just saw him a week or so ago. Sold him my old wood stove to heat his garage so he can get his 31 back together and he checked out my new 21 490 and other toys while he was here.
