Finishing up a 52 pickup, and looking for opinions on paint products. My two choices at this point are PPG DCC urethane or PPG Basecoat/clearcoat. I'm a bit concerned the base/clear might look too "over-restored" and look too nice, versus the DCC urethane which goes on and may look a bit more original. Either choice allows for wet sand buffing if any trash or errors, but just looking for any thoughts from those that have been there before me. Thanks!

faced with the same problem on my 50 coupe went with the urethane, first because i know i might make a mistake putting something back on,second because i didnt want it too shiny came out a little glossier than i wanted but i like it,got a few goobers but wet sanding will take care of that

both paints are good, I used them for many years, if you wet sand eather one and buff you will get that flat look, what I mean is when you sand down rough or bad spots the sandpaper takes it down flat or smooth and you buff it out you get the gloss back.A good painter with years of painting should be able to put the paint on a little rough to make it look oem. when I painted I tried to get my paint to lay down like the oem paint when I only had to, lets say paint a fender and door but not the rest of the side

Thanks for the comments. I will probably let the painer decide what he feels most comfortable with, since it seems both products are OK.

For non metallic colors I prefer Single stage. Less material build up and less products to buy.

i agree with 61 vert i used a single stage paint on my 50 went to my PPG guy and the only type of opaint i could get in my color trim tag #428 was an OMNI SINGLE STAGE paint it wasnt their best class of paint but results were outstanding, the car will never see harsh weather again so paint should stand up for quite awhile

Stefakicoupe, Went to the paint man with the numbers you gave me for Grecian Gray but he wasn't in so will have to go back. I'm going to ask him about single stage paint. I'm not a paint guy so I don't even know what that means but sounds good.
I think I'm a fairly wise person because I'm smart enough to realise I'm not too bright.
