I personally can confirm that my "X" pfrefix engine has the lower compression "car" pistons in it. It is rebuilt and ready to go. I have done no other work to my "York bodied" truck with my wife still being ill. I wish i knew as much about these things as Ray and Chipper. My bedside, and area behind the door, is all one piece. Picture if you will an extended cab El-Camino. Your truck is very interesting, and I wish you luck. You are ahead of me in the game. Mine was in a 1000 pieces when I purchased it............Mine also has the "double" dash in it.....

I see the words "running board spacers" used, and I have no clue what they are, what they look like, or what material was used. Can anybody help me out with what they look like?
Also, I still need to know how the back of the cab is mounted to the frame... a picture or two would be helpful... thanks Dennis

One more question.... I noticed in the picture, on the inside of both doors, a jagged toothed piece of metal running vertically. Can anybody tell me what these were for? The inside of my doors disappeared apparently, years ago....
Thanks Dennis

Regarding the jagged-tooth vertical rails on the doors, I believe those were used to hold the window at various openings, meaning this type of mechanism was used instead of roll-up windows.
My '28 AB truck doors have vertical bars with holes drilled in them and a mechanism that moves the window up and down, and a pin goes into one of the holes to hold the window in that position.
Cheers, Dean

Hi Dean.... I would be very interested in a picture or two of how the windows with the pins work that hold it a various stages of up and down... specifically, what do you use to "lift" the window with your hands? I bet it is something obvious and simple but it escapes me what it could be....
Also, at the top of my doors, there is a spring loaded device on top of the door..... does anybody know its purpose?
Thanks for all the help and suggestions... keep them coming!!! I appreciate them.... Worked on the truck for four hours this morning.

Dennis, your cab is a different one than this. You have the factory type Chevy cab. This truck has a York body and are totally different.
28 Chevy LO Capitol 1 ton, 28 National 2 dr coach, 71 Chevy Custom Camper 3/4 ton. Also 23 Oldsmobile Economy truck and a 24 Olds sport touring.

Bob, Sorry I haven't called you back yet....Just to confirn something.....The truck in question {I believe} DOES NOT have a York Body. I have two York Cataloges, and this body {in question} is not like any in the cataloge. It was York body corp. until July of 1928 when Hoover bought them out. Then it became the York Hoover Body Corp....... My York body has chain driven roll up windows also.

A bit cooled down thread already, but there is one little thing that bothers me. I've read Hayward's and Kaufmann's documents already earlier, but I'd like to ask, to what is based the knowledge that X-prefix means export? Al X or RX -prefixed engines seem to be assembled to 1/2ton light deliver chassis. That would lead towards eXpress rather than eXport. All Chevy engines I have seen here (Finland) are either T-prefixed or without prefix. And they are all originally exported. Does anybody have a 1/2ton chassis with other than X-prefixed engine?

All Chev 4 trucks down here in Australia are prefixed TR and the 28's use cast iron pistons and have a slightly lower compression. They all seem to have the truck chassis as in 40 years of involvement in Chev 4's I've only seen two 'light delivery' chassis Chris

I have personally seen several other "halt ton light deliveries" withour the "X" prefix engines. A good friend of mine has another York Bodied half ton truck just like mine. It does not have an "X" prefix either.
