How were the COPO Camaro's identified, regarding serial number or cowl tag? If one didn't know it was a COPO car, how would it positively be identified?

Bob I'm guessing you have no paper work on the car. I don't know a whole lot about them except they had a special rearend with a "BE" code. The people on Camaro Reseach Group have some of the vins from known COPO. You might throw the vin to them & maybe they have it on record. What do you see that might make you think you have a COPO? Just curios?....Joe

Joe,
I don't have ther car, I know of the car.
It is said to be a COPO 9561, ZL1, 4 spd., Orange and originally sold At Gibb Chevrolet in the state of Illinois? I believe.
I have asked about definite COPO I.D. on this site and the Chevy Talk site, but no replies.
If my memory serves me correctly, the "cowl tag" had some identification stating it was a "COPO" vehicle.

Bob If it's one of the ZL1 Camaros, I have all the vin numbers for them. You could post it or send me a PM & I'll check. There is nothing on the cowl tag. Most of the cars started as X44 cars which is the base car. Can you get the VIN? Joe

Joe,
What I have now before me are the last 3 digits .. which are "732".
A friend, who was at B.J. in Scottsdale, is trying to determine the validity of this vehicle. I'm thinking he has the complete VIN number, I wrote down what info he gave me on the phone.
Somehow I was thinking "COPO" was stamped on the cowl tag, thought I saw it displayed one year on B.J.

Bob Providing what I give you is what he's seeing is 124379N610732, Hugger Orange, 711 interior, 4spd. Sold new at Gibbs. It's car number 33, X44 body & is listed as survives. Does that help? Joe

When my phone message is returned, I will send you the VIN he has. I will send it via PM.
It appears what I have listed here on previous post is what you have, as well.
Thanks, Joe,
Bob
