Today.. looked at a roadster for sale.. all wood was romoved (soft and worm eaten), replaced with steel bars. The rust.. no holes.. frame solid.. no top.. no instrument panel.. no gearbox.. the steering wheel on the right.. (from SA) all fenders and doors.. no rumble seat cover/door.. full fendered.. I know it is a rare chevy (less than 2000!? sold) Have foud out that some 200 was sold as Holden's in Australia/NZ.
It is one of the most beutiful roadsters manufactured ( OK.. -32 chevy roadster, No 1).
What parts are available as NOS or NORS of the missing mentioned above.
Please, need advise, shall I buy it? Price.. lightyears from a Ford roadster.

You will need to be just a little more patient, until more people have had a chance to read your questions, and make answers. At the moment, only 10 people are in the forum here.
Certainly, you will be able to find the parts to make this car complete. It might take a little time and a little money, but it can be done. That is tuly a beautiful car, and worth saving. Many of the smaller parts are reproduced. Many parts are easily available in the States.

From your list of missing parts, the top may be the only thing that would be tough to find. The 34-35 Standard Roadster is a beautiful car. Well worth saving . Just my 2 cents !

The '33 roadster is one of the most difficult cars to find parts for. This car has many aspects that were unique to this year and model since it was built by Chevrolet and not Fisher. Everything is going to be difficult to locate, doors, top parts, seats, etc. Equally difficult will be the manufacturing of the wood parts; no one produces a kit for this (although there is one guy who SAYS he can do it; he can't, I found out). Be prepared to spend more time and money than you can eventually sell the car for; if this sounds crazy then welcome to the club..................

I mis-read the original post; the '34 standard may be slightly easier to find chassis parts for but still very rare.

Chevrolet cars and trucks came to Aus in several forms, complete assembled vehiles, complete unassembled in a box and as a rolling chassis with the body built in Australia while others were completely built here. As far as I know all of the imported parts came from Canada. Tony

While Googling for information about my 1934 Holden Chevrolet Standard Roadster, I came across this thread. I must admit that I found more information on this website about this car, and I'm simply amazed. I owned this car 15 years ago, sold it, and now have it back. The gentleman I sold it to passed away, and I have the car for sale. I believe it still has original paint and interior, with excellent wood. It has been converted to left-hand drive. There are some photos and a brief description on the AACA website.(cars for sale) I now know more about the car than when I owned it the first time. I am currently at home, and can't post the VIN number and body number, but I do know it started with MR. I'll start a new thread looking for more information in the future. If you're still interested, Mr. Pigiron, please email me at connauto@sbcglobal.net. Regards -- Frank

If the car is an australian HOLDEN built 1934--1935 chevrolet standard series 107" wheelbase , body parts for that will be even tougher to obtain than Canadian or USA body stampings.
The 1934-35 std series roadsters and tourings bodys were built by chevrolet and were **not** fisher bodies. Door hinges are entirely different, rumble seat lids are much different and larger than fisher body coupe trunk lids. Door handles are different. Wood parts are different.
I have found all this out in the last 30 days since taking delivery of my 34-35 std roadster.....it was sold to me as a 34 but its on a 35 chassis. Thanks to 3 very helpful guys who belong to this chat, ( dave---bruce---jay ) i have learned a lot about this car.
Word to the wise.......buy agood restored car for less than it will cost to redo one.!!!! Buy a good complete car because you may be looking for parts for this one for a long time !!!!!!!!! Ask me how i know this !

If you would like to have pictures of my 1934 1935 chevrolet roadster........just email me direct at
mike350 at rogers dot com
I have started calling it SHAZBOT, a word used by mork from Ork in the TV show Robin Williams starred in . Apparently its now known as a swear word, news to me.
My car pictures are stored on my computer and not on any picture hosting site. From clicking on an icon when posting to a thread it appeared as thats what i had to do. Posting pictures to any site has always been a problem for me.
If you wish to take the pictures and post them to this thread, be my guest.

Mike... where are the pictures! Is it drivable now, or are you pulling it apart? ===================================================== Drivable now,????? only had it in my hands barely 30 days.......LMAOROTF.......no brakes, no running boards, only 2 cowl area bolts holding the whole main body down, no guages. No idea if actually motor runs, its a 33 master. Right now the car is a hiboy style with zero fenders, half the hood hood has been sold off, grill mesh also , as has the headlights. Every part i do not want is for sale on ebay, with more to come. mike

Awesome... how's the wood frame? Is there a bunch of carpentry sessions in your future?

Awesome... how's the wood frame? Is there a bunch of carpentry sessions in your future? ========================================================= YUP, got a couple of the new laser equipted digital speed controled 14" drill presses, a new blade for my six inch bandsaw, the newish haussmann 6 x 48 belt and disc sander is ready to go. I ordered 36 assorted grit..2 1/4" x 3 " sanding sleeves for the drum attachment for the drill press. The forstner bits will counter sink the button head stainless steel allen heads to replace all screws. Furniture bungs i call them with teeth that take 5/16 or 3/8" bolts will be used to lock the lap joints together. Got a bisquit joiner for $25 from a lawn sale, the special glue inserter tool like norm on this old house/new yankee workshop. My friend bob has offered his steamer pipe setup to bend any wood parts that need it. Another friend Don has offered use of his joiner or 12" planer if it need it. I plan on making superior copies in ash hardwood of as many parts that are good enough to supply correct patterns. There will be some minor modifications to improve the fit of the sheet metal too the wood parts. Unfortunately the front door posts and the wood piece that runs under the cowl were made by the previous owners the TENNESSEE / ALABAMA BOZOS who had no idea what they were doing ! Right now its too smoking hot and brutally humid out there to do anything. So back to selling excess parts off SHAZBOTT on ebay . mike lynch

A visit to BUSY BEE TOOLS found me looking at a mortising attachment set for my drill presses , and it was on sale at $40 . I figure after watching NORM on the new yankee workshop use his , way to many times, i can get some mortise and tennon joinery happening on shazbott the 1934-1935 roadster.
In a visit to a local lumber supplier, Peacock lumber, who has a lot of hardwoods in stock. A recommendation to use ASH as the main wood was given.
Anybody have an opinion about ash verses other hardwoods for chevrolet body wood.???????????

I used hard maple for both roadsters and several trucks I restored. Closer grain and easier to work with; it's what baseball bats are made of.

Most baseball bats use white ash as do the replacement wood people. Maple, oak and several other hardwoods are appropriate for bodies. The wood originally used in Chevy bodies varied somewhat depending on the strength required for a particular part. Poplar was used extensively particularly in areas with lower stress.

Today i dug out my new 6x48 belt sander and took coats of paint paint off one of the pieces of wood that goes under the panel above the rumble seat lid.
Well after a trip to the local hardwood seller PEACOCK lumber in OSHAWA ontario Canada where gm builds cars, i give my freshly sanded piece of wood , thats 2 x 2 square to the wood expert and he tells me most likely brazilian teak or by the colour and smell brazilian walnut. They carry the walnut in stock, the teak is extremely pricey , so will give it a pass. Fantastic colour, looks like a chocolate pudding.
So for anybody wondering what the wood is they used on the Buenos Aries Argentina GM assembly line for roadsters answer is above.
I can hardly wait to clean the rest of the pieces i have removed so far. And replace the wood parts that are needed with new brazilian walnut. Wallets gonna take a pounding , but thats okay

As i continue with tearing apart the seating area of the roadster i am discovering that what appears to be also oak or maybe teak in some of the components of the wood areas, besides the brazilian walnut i have discovered in certain components. Will have to use the 6x48 belt sander to a few pieces to see exactly what they are. The toughest area where the roadster top sits will be the last area to be touched. It has complicated mortise and tenon joints, finger joints and i think a scarf angled joint. I YI YI......norm abrahm , please come visit, bring your tools.........LMAO MIKE LYNCH
