I just recently bought a 67 RS Camaro, Granada Gold. Under the trunk lid, near the hinges, I see some red paint. Also, in the door jambs, I see some red here and there. On the door hinges, I can see some blue showing. Overall, the car is in excellent shape and is a true gold car. My question is this: Are these most likely replacement parts or could this be primer showing?

My bet is replacement parts. Primer was either gray or red oxide.

The door and trunck lid may also have been replace because the originals were rotted or damaged due to sitting.
Regardless of who did the replacements they did the right thing and consider yourself fortunate that they didn't try to repair the originals.
Prep and repaint the effected ares and you should be OK.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not planning any major work for the car anytime soon. I just want to drive and enjoy.

Hey Skippy, I take a break every now and then. Grab an ice cold one and check out the computer. Nice of you to ask. Hope all is well....

Hi Bryan, Does the cowl tag indicate that gold was the original color, and do you suspect that there may have been some parts swapped and/or a repaint done? Take a look behind the various weatherstrips and see what's there in terms of color. Does the shade of red that you see look like a red topcoat or the red oxide primer-glossy or flat? Steve L.

The car is an original granada gold. It has been re-painted. It's odd because I see red showing in the door jams, as well as on the underside of the trunk and on door hinges. I just thought it was odd to see red showing in the jams...I could understand seeing it on possible replacement parts.

If you are certain the paint code is gold, then I would suspect a lot of previous damage if the door jambs are red.

One more thought, could the "red" you are seeing be a red oxide type primer painted onto the car by a previous owner?

As far as it being primer, I suppose it's possible. Either way, it's disappointing. Being a decent amateur painter, I could've done much better with the prep & finish. I usually spay grey primer and it would've been a better choice under the gold. No worries...looking forward to nice weather and possibly making it to the meet in Flint this summer. It's only about a 3 hour drive for me.
