I pulled my rocker arms and shafts this afternoon for rebuild. Now I'm working my way through the rest of the valve train. Some of my push rods are very worn where they pass through the guides in the head. I don't see that push rods are available from the Chevy vendors.
Does anyone know where I can find some? (Not sure how many yet). My engine has the adjustment at the bottom.

Never mind. Gary Wallace has them in his catalog. They're listed under Valve rather than Rocker or Push rod. I'll give him a call.

When you have the adjustments at bottom you have an early 490 engine, just like Solan.

My 21 has adjusters at the bottom also. The Lifter locks sure do rattle when running. Just looked up lifters and pushrods. Oval lifters with lower adjusters used up to Car No A-50000. There was a kit to install later style flat bottom lifters on the older engines. The parts book I used is the July 1, 1922.

I looked at mine today. I didn't realise they had that good of a fit going through the head, but it makes sense now to keep the rod inline since there is no "cup" on the pushrod. I wonder if they could be built up with babbit or brass and dressed down at the worn areas?

Gary Wallace only has the later 24122 plain push rods, not the 788 design with threads for adjustment at the bottom. I guess I'll either have to have mine built up or have new ones machined - unless someone knows where I can find some.
My push rods are flat on top just like the picture in the Parts Book. Seems like this design is guaranteed to wear the rocker arms - which mine were. I would think a rounded top would be better.
BTW: Anyone know where I can find original-style push rod felts? What's left of my originals are about 1/2" tall. Not sure what the height is supposed to be, but the reproductions I've seen are only about 1/4" thick. Maybe I'll have to stack 2 or 3 of them.

I just posted photos of my #1 intake and exhaust push rods, locks and lifters: #1 Push Rods, Locks & Lifters I need to figure out how best to address the wear on these parts. I haven't seen locks available anywhere, so I may have new ones made.

Are these refering the felts for sale on ebay, did you talk to the seller of the item.

Looks like I'm headed down the path of making new push rods and lifer locks for my 1918-vintage engine. I haven't found anybody that carries these parts for bottom-adjuster motors.
Is anybody else in need of new push rods and lifter locks? The more pieces we order, the cheaper they are to make.

I will need at the very least 1 lifter lock part number 845. I may need the rest of them after checking but will let you know on that. They sure do clack (have up and down play)when the engine is running, but not sure if that is the nature of the beast or not.

Bob - I've only inspected two of my lifter locks so far, but they have completely different wear patterns. One is beat out at the top of the slot. The other is severely worn along the slot edges where it slides in the lifter groove. I suspect all are worn enough to need replacement. I would guess the clack is due to both.
