I ordered a service manual for a 1958 Chevrolet, which covers the Impala, Bel air, DeRay, and the Biscayne. Now I like to know if anyone knows if the "Factory Manual," is a good book to get when restoring from a beginners point of view? Before I order it, I wanted to make sure it includes the dissasembling like it says, bolt to bolt.

The Factory Assembly Manual was produced to document the assembly of the vehicles. It contains drawings to show workers how they went together. More information that the average person can digest.

The factory assm manual was one of the first books I ordered when I was doing Camaros. Like Chipper said lots of drawings. It includes part numbers in the drawings & thing like options & some of the pieces that make it different from basic assm. Once you figure out how the book works it can be a helpful tool. Well worth the little amount of money they charge. I wish they had them for the early 30's cars. The service manual will help you on repairs. It was a book used by the shops...Joe

My interest now is the way the s/s mouldings come off the front front windows. The rear ones has clips on the top which snap off. I heard the front ones have screws attached from the inside. I took the interior trim off and removed some screws which had flat bottoms. The trim didn't come off. Does anyone know how the mouldings are removed? Thanks in advance.

I don't know if the '58 was the same as the '57 or not. '57 had the stainless trim embedded in the rubber weatherstrip. So the windshield needs to be removed to remove the stainless trim.

Ahh, makes sense, I was thinking that a few days ago. I have a glass friend who puts repairs and installs windows in homes. He had done some car winshields. I will ask him, thanks!

You WILL benefit from having the factory assembly manual. Its the first piece I order when restoring a car for the boss.Shows the correct placement of wiring harnesses to body mounts. I used the one for 61 today to determine the correct location for the coil bracket on a 3x2 348 car. Bolts to the firewall. Assembly manual told me that the screw hole is located 1.26 inches off the centerline of the car.
