Can anyone help me identify the numbers on my block casting.
I believe that I have a 1928 capitol truck.

the casting numbers on the passenger side of the block are
848532
Below these numbers is the chevy bowtie and a 5 beside the emblem
Below the Bowtie is a L207

The exhaust manifold has EJ 348571 stamped on the casting

I think that these numbers are accurate. The 8 and 3 casting numbers are somewhat hard to tell apart.

I hope that these numbers will allow me to order correct parts to get this engine to fire off after 45 years of no use.

Thanks

Paul

Your block casting number should be 348532 not 848532, and your engine block was cast on December 20, 1927.

The final type 4-cylinder Block, Casting # 348532 was introduced for 1928 Model National and Capitol motors which started with Engine # 3,863,596 [castings being produced from the last days in November 1927 until November 1928] with the 35 b.h.p. motor two-port Head, a revised Carter carburettor RAKX-0 or C-RAKX-0, and in the case of the Series AB only a larger radiator and shell than the Series AA.

The '28 head will be # 348540.

Thank you all for your help.

Is there a engine identifier that would be placed with this block for example a 283/327 for my 57 chevy belAir?

The only thing would be the letter "T" in front of the serial number on the block, T denotes truck.

28 Chevy LO Capitol 1 ton, 28 National 2 dr coach, 71 Chevy Custom Camper 3/4 ton. Also 23 Oldsmobile Economy truck and a 24 Olds sport touring.

If the engine was out of another vehicle it could have 'X' from a Light Delivery. Right hand drive engines have 'R' as an addition.
