Hi to all need to get some contact details, seems strange writing to people without saying how you going.

Anyway I would like to ask if anyone can advise how to adjust the front brakes on my 1928 chev. I removed the wheels as advised and checked out the calipers, there is about 3/16th of an inch of pad left on each. Is this enough?

Measured the front brake linkage rods they both measure the same.

The right brake caliper only needs to move no more than say 1/2 inch before the calipers engage the drum.

The left brake caliper needed quite a lot of adjustment until it engaged, don't understand why? the caliper extends okay with at least 1 inch of travel.

Is this adjustment normal? Can anyone suggest why the right brake engages with little travel and the left needs more.

How will it effect the car under brakes?

regards to all.

Hello Down-under,

Rather that give you a step by step procedure I recommend you immediately purchase an Owner's Manual and a Repair Manual. Between the two you will receive sufficient information to perform maintenance on you brakes and the entire car.

As to the differences in adjustments on your car, I suspect the prior owner(s) did not make proper adjustments and the differences are really no big deal.

After you have received your reference books and studied them, and you still have questions, please return here and you will receive excellent information and help with your new rig.

Just hang around for the fun,

Agrin devil

Hello Shearer,

As Ray says, get the manualsiagree. But until your manuals arrive, here is a link to the Owner's Manual section about brakes on Keith Hardy's on-line manual site:

Thanks very much for the link regarding the brake adjustment, I have also purchased the repair manual.
The links that people have sent to me are great,a nd I'm sure my wife will get a lot of pleasure knowing I am fiddling with the car and out of her hair.

regards
