Is there any source for the (celluloid) or plastic style stop light lens that looks like the original? Did the original stop light have the letters RELITE stamped on the top of the light tub? laugh wink

Note; spell checker is slow if at all.
Great to have chat back

The 1930 celluloid lens was reproduced for a time years ago, but no one makes them now that I am aware of.

Yes, on the RELITE.

JYD,

Your right, again, about no source for the celluloid lens. I've been searching for two years for a 29 lens. Saw a sightly cracked one at Hershey a few weeks ago, but it was on someone's 29 Chevy sedan. Lucky guy.

The search continues.

Yep.....the 1930 lens is a one year only lens and finding an original celluloid 1930 lens is hard to do. Fortunately, I have a new old stock celluloid lens on my 1930 coupe.

Was there a difference between the 1929 & the 1930? If so what was the difference?

"...the 1930 lens is a one year only lens"

The 1930 lens had a dome on top of the lens for the brake light. The 1929 lens didn't have the dome but instead had the word "STOP" on the top portion of the lens.

I have a celluloid lens I purchased several months ago but not sure what year it fits. I think it is for the 30. if some one will send me an e-mail address I will send a picture. I would not be opposed to sell it.

There is a 30? lens on eBay. Just has the bubble on top. No word "STOP". Check item 120056173552.

The lens is for 1930. 1929 and earlier had vertical ribs with the word "STOP". It is really hard to tell but the lens might be a reproduction from years ago. Back when this lens was reproduced the color of the celluloid was more of a red, as shown in the photos on eBay. The original lens was a dark ruby red in color.

Grady Cox had repro'd the 1929 lens being thicker than the original and may still have some available he advertises in G & D Ph: 1(903)684-3443.
I had seen a 1930 repro some years ago that was almost pinkish color.
