Hello everyone, I have a 1931 Chevy Coach. It is not setup to pull a trailer. I'd like to be able to tow a matching open or closed cargo trailer for touring, picnicking, car meets, etc. Are there classic style trailers available? Also, can anyone discuss the proper installation of a receiver and hitch on the 31 Coach? Lastly, with a single left rear taillight on the car, is that also satisfactory for a trailer? Thanks

I would be surprised if in 1931 they had receiver type hitches.

There were aftermarket hitches available. Design depends on if the rear bumper or fender guards are installed. Reproduction Mullins Trailers are available (think they were introduced mid-30s). Would suspect that the majority of trailers from that era would have been home made using a pipe for tongue and axle salvaged from a car or truck.

Thanks Andys29 and Chipper for your information. I found Mullins Trailers at Superiorglassworks.com. As far as a hitch for the 31 Coach, I assume it must be homemade. I have the double bar split rear bumpers with trunk rack in the middle. Are there any successful hitch designs/plans available for this application? Any suggestions about parts/kit to retrofit the 31 to 6 volt turn signals and left/right brake lights? At this point I'm gathering information and I do appreciate everyone's suggestions. Thank you

I made a right side tail light bracket by dupicating the left side in heavy cardboard and reversing the bends. Then I had a local shop fabricate the bracket. It looked great but didn't look good on the sport coupe and got in the way of the rumble seat step pad. I gave it to my son who has a four door.

Hey If you are looking for a light weight trailer you may want to think about a Coleman Caboose. The were made about 20+/- yrs ago. They are basically a car top carrier on wheels. It weighs about 155+/- lbs, holds about 1000lbs and tongue weight is ~15lbs. They originally came in a red colour but the great thing about them is they were made with the same plastic as are the canoes they make. They are also very easily painted. I have one which I tow with my motorcycle.
Something to consider. Cliff
not bad, yourself ? Thanks for asking.
