Stock transmission and rear end but no enclosed driveshaft! He's put a carrier bearing and made a two piece set up. I wonder how he lubes the front universal.

Looks like good workmanship if nothing else. How has he sealed the oil in the front universal joint housing / driveshaft cover. If he doesnt align the 3 universal joints correctly there will be a destructive vibration and my guess it will be the front uni that gives out first. Tony

My Corvette has a high speed torque tube and nothing is submerged in oil like my 38. I guess in 1938 it seemed like a good idea to keep everything soaked in oil.Maybe he's using a modern day universal that has lube fittings, but getting the right splines would be a challenge. I thought it was a great engineering project. I bet it won't leak...grin

Certain models of 1938 Canadian Pontiacs I've seen have the 216 and stock chevy transmission with a fully open driveshaft. There's a cover with a seal that bolts onto where the "bell" usually mounts, then there are the typical front and rear exposed u-joints...

Does he say somewhere that it is a stock rearend and stock transmission? I would be doubting the rearend for sure.

It might be a stock rear end but it sure don't look like a stock torque tube rear end... Anybody noticed the yoke on the rear end? You really can not see the trans very well to ID it. but it could be that my eyes don't see very well any more..

It isnt original rear suspension and doubt it is original rear axle but the gearbox is about the right size for original. Tony

What keeps the lube in the "U" joint?

It must be a modern type u joint that has grease fittings. I think the old ball housing is just for looks and used as a shield. Really the ball housing must not be needed at all.

It looks like neat workmanship but aren't those exhaust pipes running through that crossmember going to cause some awful rattles and vibrations?

There appears to be exhaust mountings as the pipes exit the added in cross member. I asked about the "u joint" lube earlier but with further thought and closer look I feel I could successfully seal that retaining the original "u joint". Tony
