The origional color of my 41 Cab/Conv. was black. The paint underneath the trunk lid is black. If I change the color of the body does the underside of the trunk lid need to be changed also. How you gonna do that without spraying the stuff between the lid's framework?

I think I'm gonna be stuck with black. I want ruby maroon. I would settle for that dark grey like the one in the museum, but that would lead to the same problem for under the trunk lid. What a mess!

Ed,
Never heard of it. You mean you can take some newspaper and that stuff and blank out an area and paint all around it. Wow! (grin)

Actually, I didn't know if all them were black or not. But didn't think so. Also, worried about overspray. I'll have to be careful.

Thanks for your reply.
Best wishes,
Charlie

Wow, what a beautiful rag top. Out here, in the land of Oz, {So. Cal} there are 4-6 Maroon convertible's. All very cool cars!!!

I was told by the always correct Chevgene the inside of Trunk lid was painted the same color as the car, ie; Nice Maroon, beautiful Admiral Green, bigl etc.

Enjoy the ride,

Yes, I agree the underside of the trunk lid is body color. Except for
the 4-5 areas where the insulation (??) woven cloth-like stuff shows.

[What the heck is the correct name for that 'stuff' anyway??]

Anyway, as I understand it, that "stuff" is supposed to be
'natural,' not painted body color. It's a sort of tan or beige color.

Incidentally, painters tape would likely be better than masking tape.
Less likely to pull anything off when removing the tape.

Bill you are right, that stuff is supposed to be, natural stuff color. Not painted. My stuff is kind of blackish/grayish. Might just be dirty after years of dirt. sick

Oh and that stuff is called "woven cloth stuff." idea

I did a search for some "stuff like that last year when I "reconditioned" my Trunk/floor/side panels/mat/metal/seat back/shelf, etc. etc. but no luck.

I did find some sort of similar "stuff" at the local swap meet. It's a little thicker but might work. I say might because I did not buy it. I gently "sanded" my old trunk stuff, and it came out OK.

enjoy the ride,

Ah yes, "woven cloth stuff." Nice try Mike!!!

That still leaves me wondering what the heck the real name
of that stuff is.

Good to hear you got yours looking better by "gently" sanding it.

Hope all is well, old buddy.

That is a right pretty car. Not as nice as a 41 ... well, you know.

Anyway, Is it a 42? I was wondering whether they made a convetible 42-48 with the fleetline trim. Seems like that would have been standard.

The maroon with the tan top makes a nice looking combination.
Charlie

BTW: Thanks for posting the picture.

BTW2: I started out by calling the soft material between the skeleton under the turnk lid "stuff." It seems that some respondees are making fun of me for that term. Well, if you smart aleks know what it's called, please enlighten the rest of us and quit a-"quoting" and a-snickering at my expense. (Grin)

BTW3: I supposed the fleetline trim question should have been over in the 42-48 forum. Well, until 41 gets its own fourm, this one is where the most action is. So those folk over there are really nosing around over here. Hence, no need to post over there. See?

The "stuff" is called sound deadener and it's the same thing that's inside the doors to make them not sound tinny. I have a '48 convertible and the paint inside the trunk lid is body color. When I changed the body color I found some NOS deadener and cut out the areas in the lid to use them for a pattern. I then used the patterns on the NOS stock. My car was sprayed a tough gold color and there was gold overspray on the material. The original color was dove gray and I changed it to a '48 color - Lake Como blue. This was done in the early 80s...

Hey Charley,

No one was making fun of you and your term "stuff." At least NOT me.
As far as I can tell, nobody knew the name until PDXjoe
enlightened us.

Sound deadening material. I guess everybody should have known that's
what it was. But nobody seemed to!

Good on Joe for coming to the rescue!!!!chevy
