Chipper,
That amazes me too that electronics and such, with so many complicated assemblies and all, are so cheap when a chunk of rubber or a fender or quarter panel can be soo expensive.
I am a conservative and believe in capitalism and feel that most of the problems with our country stems from greed. I wish I had some great answers but I don't. Socialism isn't good due to the lack of incentive to work. Communism isn't good due to the lack of freedom. Capitalism seems as good a system as there is as long as we don't get greedy. Our government is responsible for many of our problems. They tend to be the greediest of all, while proclaiming that they need to take care of us. Well thank you very much but I can take care of myself and family if you don't tax me to death. Speaking of which If you had to work under the EPA regulations required of industry where would you make tires? These type of government bureaucracies "IRS" did I say that out loud?, are killing our capatilistic society. Granted clean air is good and rules need to be made to get things cleaned up, but sad to say much of this is just put in place to fund our out of control Greedy government. Read the Constitution of the United States of America and ask yourself, "is this what we have for a government or has something went wildly astray"?
Why can't we go to a Consumer Tax and eliminate all the complicated tax structure and the IRS as we know it? If you spend you pay tax, If you save you don't pay tax. We could pay 40% sales tax and still come out way ahead and the government would have a lot more money not spent on the bureaucracy of the IRS. Again I haven't got the answers these are more like questions and I am sure someone can and probably will, tell me why my thought are all wrong. So anyway this is my thoughts on why products are made offshore.
Wow that is the longest rant I have had since that one on RTV. Sorry Ray!!!
The irony in all this. I work for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana. We make a great product and I would dare say more parts are made in the USA for our vehicles than on a new Chevrolet or Ford. They have the much coming from Canada and Mexico. There are stickers on many of our new vehicles that state the percentage of parts from US suppliers. I think it is some sort of Government mandated thing "there goes more of those tax dollars". I am sure GM and Ford have these stickers as well. God Bless America and Keep the Old Chevys running!!!
