Can someone tell me how wide the U shaped lower radiator/shell support bracket is measured from the front top of the U??

At the front top, it's 20-1/8"
At the rear top, it's 20-7/8"

Both measurements are to the outside edge of the flat bar.

Just happened to have one I just finished blasting and painting.

That is awesome Chip, thanks. That is exactly what I have, but I bought another for the shell and it measured only 19.5. I did see where it had been welded though.
