The absolutely correct carburetor is a Carter W-1 model 212S early or later 235S with the idle air mixture adjustment screw up near the air horn. Many will tell you that they don't run well. They can be made to run well if the rebuilder knows what he is doing. The recommended replacement is a model 569S.

Do you mean by "not run well" that the mileage is poor or just not run smoothly. I had a correct 32 carb (not sure which #) on my 32 and it ran fine, just couldn't get better than 13-14 mpg. With the replacement 569s #421 its more like 19-21.

The 212S only gets 10-12 mpg or so. The 235S gets ~15 mpg. Both can be made to run well. Depends on how much someone drives the car and gas mileage is important compared to driving one like it was originally produced.

How can I identify a 569-S carb? I was given a spare W-1 for my 32 however it does not have a brass tag and I can't find any identification on it. It doesw have a threaded hole for a vacume line under the mixture screw and there is a long list of patent numbers. Any ideas? thenks......

Look for 421 cast into the end of the float bowl and a straight arm on the throttle shaft. That is step #1. To tell for sure requires checking some internal parts.
