This pickup is currently advertised on eBay as a 1953. It doesn't look like a 53 to me. Note the door handles, lack of vent windows and serial number.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to the accuracy of the ad?

Looks like it has the cab vent door on cowl on drivers side. I think that ended in 49. Don

Yep, it definitely looks like a 1949 or earlier pickup.

If it was a 1953 the serial number would egin with H53.
At least the cab is from an older model. Lack of vent windows and vent on left cowl and the temp. gauge reads up to 212. The 1953 read 220 I believe. It does not have the 1953 style heater.
The engine is a 1954.
Why chrome around just the windshield?
Has 1953 style hood side name plates.

Am I missing something here? Restored/Original both in the same sentence?

The doors are '50 and older. The cowl on the drivers side also appeared on the '50. They did away with the cowl vent in '51 when they went to the vent windows. It appears to be a very nicely re-done conglomeration of the different years. '53 was the first year that the side mounted wheel carrier was an RPO in these trucks. Chrome bumpers and hubcaps were not available on the '53 either.

Looks like a Frankeinstein truck.

It's pretty obvious that it has an earlier '47-'50 cab.

It does however sport a few "1953 only parts".

The "seashell" design horn on the intake is 1953 only.
{ earlier trucks had the model T style horn on the intake & the 1954's had the horns mounted on the radiator support}.

The side mount spare tire carrier was first offered in 1953.
{not avaliable in trucks before 1953 }.1953 was the only year that had a mount that fit the angled bed sides.

1953 was the only year that had a maroon parking brake release knob.
{ earlier trucks had a chrome "T" handle & the '54 trucks had a black knob }.

The Dead giveaway here is.....
Truck VIN plates were black on aluminum from 1947-1952.

In 1953 the truck VIN plates were changed to blue on aluminum.

Looks like an earlier VIN plate is on this thing.

Has the correct '53 side hood emblems but, they look like repops.

It has the earlier style heater { not the 1953 specific one }.

I am gonna say they started out with a rusty { or wrecked } '53 & installed an earlier '47-'50 cab on that frame & transfered over some of the '53 specific parts to their rebuild.

All good points, MT! My final observation is: WHY WOULD ANYBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND PUT ASTRO-TURF DOWN AND TRY TO PASS IT OFF AS ORIGINAL? Might work at the Astrodome in Houston, but not in an AD!

The seller bought the truck and is only reselling it. I am sure he has no knowledge as to what is correct. He is just trying to make a hand full of money.
