Can anyone tell me why in my profile where it says “Member?:” mine is blank? I’ve been a member since December of 2006 and there is no place that I can find to enter a “yes” in the “edit profile” page.
And no I have not checked to display the VCCA oval because I think there is already way to much junk on the forum screen and it make it just that much more difficult to view the thread.

I dunno Denny. I just checked my profile and the only references to membership are where I put the check to display the logo in my posts and the blank where I entered my membership number. I guess I don't know what you're referring to. My understanding is only members even have to option to display the logo so if the option is in your profile you are on record as being a member. Maybe (probably) someone else knows more about it than I do.

Third box from the bottom, don't you see where it says "Member?:"
I looked at serveral other profiles and it has "yes" entered in to the slot and they elected not to select the oval logo also.

As to my opinion:

The reference at top left in your profile (Member #: 5876) is the user # you got when you registered.
Your VCCA Number is 43962, and I suppose the 3rd column from bottom should be filled with YES in your situation.

I would think that should have been removed in the future, as it has no point after the logo has come.

Using the logo and/or the VCCA m.ship # will often help members to get more information and parts, so there is a good point in 1. Being a VCCA member and 2. Showing it proudly as well.

Users (non-members) will sometimes discover they easily might miss some of the details and parts we normally support the VCCA members with.

The bottom four boxes in my profile are for different IM ID numbers such as ICQ, the fifth box up is a box for my favorite Chevrolet, the sixth box up is for my Member ID number. It specifies "number" not yes or no. Maybe your profile form is different from mine.

Edit: I think I see the issue. When you go to the "edit profile" screen you see what I noted above. When you view someone's profile the third from bottom space says "Member?" and mine is blank as well. I don't see any way to put anything into that blank either. I never noticed it before since the only way I've ever looked at my own profile is in the "edit" screen. I guess I can't help Denny.

I trust BBB will be able to reveal this for us.

From what I see in this thread, there must be different profile formats. When I check Denny's, I see the same "About Me" box in the lower right hand corner of the profile. The fifth box down says, "My VCCA Number". This is the same format I get when I check my own profile. Both Denny's and my own VCCA membership numbers appear in our respective formats. Beamer

Hey Beamer, click on my user name (or yours if you wish) then click on "view profile". In the "About Me" box you'll see the "Member?" box that is empty on yours and mine as well. I think that's what Denny is referring to. Some have "Yes" in that box. I've not seen any way to add that to mine and apparently Denny hasn't as well.

Solan,
I totaly agree with using the logo graphic, when I want to do some dealing, I much prefer to deal with someone that is a dues paying registered member of VCCA than not. Not that we haven't had our share of folks that join VCCA to be able to con us out of our set back funds for restoreing our old Chevies

Word passes between our comrades in arms fairly fast about these interlopers that are in the club for a fast dishonest buck or two. I may be wrong, but I'll take my chancs with VCCA members,.....JMHO

By the way, anyone notice my VCCA logo graphic being missing in action for the last few days? It is your call for a while, until BBB decides to make it a permanent fixture.

Hey Tiny, You are right!! I guess I didn't go far enough down into the "About Me" box to see the "Member?" space. I guess I just figured that since I have a VCCA member number shown that one would assume (I know, I know!) I am a member. Don't have any idea what the "Member?" space is for. There is nothing in the "edit profile" area that addresses that box either. It must just be one of those life mysteries! I think I will go have a beer beer2 and forget it. Beamer

Well, it's Friday night and I'm plum wore out. Took the wife shopping all day today. Ouch. togo

So, while I'm in a weakened condition, I'll let you know what the "blue oval" thing is all about. computer

The program that runs our Chat site, was suppose to be upgraded around the middle of this year. (A major upgrade.) But, the company that owned it, ended up selling it back to the ORIGINAL owners from 6 or 7 years ago. After that, they began a major rewrite and, apparently "got in over their heads". Now the upgrade is way overdue. On the plus side, the company recently said that they hope to have it released at the end of this year.... or the beginning of next year.

The reason why this is so important, is that each time I make a change to the code (ie. hack), then I usually have to make a similar change the next time that new code is released. When this happens 1 or 2 years apart, it becomes a nightmare to keep track of it.

Some of the fields that are in people's profiles, were originally put there in anticipation that we'd be able to automate the "membership identity" process. But with the delay in the new software upgrade, I've had to put this on hold. I have held back on making some changes with the hope that the new code would be released (first in July, then August, then October, and now, hopefully, in January).

In the meantime, I figured out a fairly simple way for members to activate a "blue oval" which flags them as a member. I have also written some additional code which will make it happen for ALL accounts, but I haven't had time to fully test it yet.
hood
Ignore the fields that say "Member - yes or no", or similar things... we have better ways now to link people to their membership account. And, someday... we'll actually link the Chat account to the Membership database. That should greatly cut down on the confusion.

And with that, I'm done.... well, actually, my beer is done. er... empty. Ha! beermugs

Stand by (hopefully) for a MAJOR announcement next week, after Thanksgiving... This will be a BRAND NEW feature available only to members. gsanta

You guys are okay!!!! Thanks a bunch.

I have had 4 or 5 things happen tonight... wow... there is a TON of stuff going on.

1. A secret project for Flint - (Chip Sweet and Jim Martoza are working on it)
2) A new FLINT product that will be added to the web site THIS WEEKEND. Watch for it.
3) A new "function" that will be announced next week (around Thanksgiving) for all members.
4) A new "Feature" that should be announced within the next week for new members.
5) A new product to be announced by the Northwest Region after Monday's club meeting.

Wow... what a great time for our club. But... I really should be outside working on my '31. I just got new glass for it last week.. haven't even had time to try to install it yet.

In the grand scheme of things, having a mystery box or two doesn't effect our great site one iota! DITTO on all the above kudos to BB. Beamer
