There is an old vacuum gauge on the 1938 Chevy Parts and Accessories ebay site. This was a favorite tool for us old guys when tuning our cars, plus it could be mounted on the dash or somewhere to monitor gas mileage. My problem was that if you punched it a little, you could see you were using a lot of gas but I was too impatient to keep the needle in the better mileage range. I imagine there are still lots of these around. This one isn't in the best of shape but when I was looking at it, the bidding was over $72.00! I don't remember what they cost new but I can't imagine paying more than a few dollars for mine as that was all I could afford. Beamer

You got to consider that sometimes people on ebay get a little carried away on bidding on some particular item. While other things just like it or simular too, get no bids at all. Kinda strange.
In my shop, quality is a standard, NOT and option.

Beamer, I've had a vacuum gauge in my tool box for decades. It is extremely useful for both tune up and diagnostic work. I have another one mounted permanently on the steering column of the '71 Dodge van that I bought new and use to tow a travel trailer to help optimize fuel economy while towing.

Ebay can be a strange place. I have seen engine blocks being sold for $1000 + shipping, while the same could be found on local craigs list for $200-$300. It pays to shop around.

You are right, and in many cases, you can get these "spare" parts free. There have been at least two '38 Chevy engines with transmissions offered for free, either in these forums or through references made in these forums to other sources, just in the past couple of weeks. And by the way, I was watching the vacuum gauge on ebay and it sold for $158.05!! I guess that gives me something else to look for at swap meets and garage sales. Beamer
