Does anyone make an upgrade for the 1930 transmission, or is there a later model transmission that will fit?

If you do the right modifications, just about any transmission that you want to install will "fit"....including a Turbo 350.

Not looking to hot rod the old girl, just looking for a smoother, less noisy transmission.

The car is a museum. You are the curator. I think you should accept and enjoy the car as it is, that's easier and less costly than making it into a bitzer. I've heard that in England that's what they call an automobile that's bits of this and bits of that.

Because Chevy used the diameter(s) and number of splines on transmission input shafts from the 20s to the 80s, many transmissions can be substituted. But because the mounting arms and transmission lengths vary modifications to other drive line parts are required to replace a '31 transmission. Repairing or rebuilding your transmission should make it less noisy. Using 600W oil should also reduce the noise and make shifting easier.

I have driven '31 Chevys for over 40 years and never thought that they should be as easy to drive as a 2011. Preservation of history has value but also requires a little compromise on convenience and comfort. I view it as a challenge and contribution to help others understand how we got to where we are today and what our ancestors had to deal with on a daily basis. I have a few more modern vehicles if I need a comfy traveling experience.
