I'm in the process of a re-paint on my '69 Malibu Sport Coupe. The car came to me as all one color, but I found evidence of silver paint below the trim on the sides of the body and fenders. Since then I've seen restored cars with that silver paint below the trim. I plan to paint that area silver, but I need to know some details. Does the silver only appear on the outside, or are the door sills and part of the door frames painted silver? Do the bottoms of the doors carry the silver color on the inside as well?

1969 Chevelles came with only single colors and the only option was a vynyl roof, it lists two colors on the trim tag to indicate with or without the vynyl roof. There were some RPO exceptions

Some of the Malibus were painted silver below the lower mouldings. I have a fender that still has factory paint & have seen many other 69s with this feature....Joe

Thanks for the help guys. Possibly I'll find a factory brochure to clear this up.

I finally found the paper work I was looking for. Malibu having VIN numbers starting 13537, 13539, & 13567 had Cortez silver painted between the mouldings between the tail lights & Cortez silver below lower moulding on the side which would include front & back of front fender, door, & rear quarter panel front & rear. This a STANDARD feature of the 69 Malibu. This is some of the paper work you can still get for GM when you supply them with a VIN. It's what they call a restoration packet. Joe

Thanks Joe, I appreciate the help. I've found more evidence of the silver on the lower area inside of the body of my Malibu, and I'm still fairly sure that was the factory paint scheme on my car. However, my VIN starts with 13637.
