I need some info as to how the horn works and how to analyize what is wrong with it. Yesterday the right horn was working perfectly and now it is just dead. I took it apart and all the connections seem to be OK. I don,t know which terminal is positive, or if it makes any difference. It is very hard to measure the coil resistance because it is so low - maybe 0.4 ohms. It obvously has been worked on before. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Gene

The original 33 Chevrolet horn is a vibrator type. The most common problem is the adjustment of the points that cause the vibration. First step is to file the points. After they are cleaned (filed) they need to be adjusted. You will find an adjusting screw which is locked with a nut. Loosen the nut, adjust the points, tighten the nut so the adjustment will not change.

The wiring circuit for the horn is a hot wire to one side of the horn constantly. To operate the horn the other leg is grounded to complete the circuit.

Thanks Ray. I will try filing the points, reassemble and adjust with the screw. I guess it doesn't matter which terminal I connect the + wire. I still think it strange that it stopped working so suddenly. Gene

Glad you solved the problem. As time goes along you can make further changes as may be required. Be sure and tighten the nut that locks the setting.
