I gave up on a Tennessee plate so I went with my birthplace state. The Tennessee plate was $300, so I opted for a $19 plate. At least it's from the right year..

Tennessee let you register an Illinois plate in Tenn.??? They're a LOT more forgiving than Kansas in that respect. You can use a YOM plate in Kansas but it has to be a Kansas plate.

No it has to be a Tennessee plate to be legal. I'll just carry my tenessee tag in the car. They never stop antique cars anyway. It's not like they would be speeding...grin.

Steve, now that you have a plate, albeit illegal, you can discard that awful looking frame. You don't need two "1938's" right next to each other just to distinquish it from a 1937 (not that 37's are inferior or anything, just older).

But then again I'm probably wasting my time here because that frame is chrome. You know.

Here's the problem. The 38 Illinois plate is about a 1/2 inch to narrow and high for a regular frame with 4 holes drilled into it.They must have standardized them some time after 38. It's a odd size. I'm looking for a better frame that will fit. I have several Corvette frames, but none will line up with the holes(not that I would put a Corvette frame on the coupe),just checking things out.

Notice the sides of the plate.

The frames they used in the 30's $ 40's,before the states standardized plate size, were tubular in construction and were adjustable both ways (height & width) they were made of brass.
There are many suppliers on the web that sell repops, they are well made and look great...not cheap but not too bad in price....That's what you need...You can probably get them in chrome also....Good Luck....ED

Steve, Aren't you taking a big gamble driving a $25,000.00 car on an illegal plate? I am sure you are very careful with it but what about the idiot that is zooming through a red light and T-bones you? Will you be in good enough shape to jump out of the car and change the plate before the police arrive? If you are, what if someone sees you do it (most likely to happen after an accident)? I hope something like this never happens but if it does, will your insurance company pay up? I think it is quite a risk just to have a '38 plate. Beamer

Same here......I totally agree! Driving with the wrong license plate is completely foolish.

Maybe you should have sold the car to that other dude for $25,000 when ya had the chance and then he could have worried about the license plate. bigl

As long as the correct plate is showing,it doesn't matter. Just stick it in the rear window. Car dealers do it every day. I drive the car maybe once a month.

Is that an offer? $25k sounds good to me.grin I only drive the car on a pretty day maybe once a month. I just stick the real plate in the back glass.

It's driveway candy. Some guys have a golf cart decked out all the way, some have an old car they bought and tried to fix up. I'm in the second catagory.

Steve, you might want to rethink the display of the out of state plate. As an ex cop I can tell you the boys in blue will most likely be wanting to talk with you about displaying two different tags on any car. It might earn you a trip to see the judge. Just an FYI.

How many cars have you seen that are green trimed in red? This one is the first I've ever seen. I think it's the Christmas Edition from GM. Very rare, worth alot of money...fishing

Christmas time can make guys do some different stuff.

I knew a guy 10-12 yrs ago who parked his bright red '68 convertible with the top down in his front yard and then strung Christmas lights all over it. Took a picture of a grand-daughter ("Santa's Helper") in it and made Christmas Cards out of the picture.

I know another guy who made snow flakes fall all over a website chat thingy for Christmas.

No doubt about it, some guys get sorta all "excited" this time of year.....
