Welcome to the best Chevy site on the WEB. We are glad you chose to join us.

The firing order on your 4-banger is 1243. Find the U/C mark on the flywheel and slowly rotate the flywheel until you find the next mark which is the timing mark.

Let us know how you come out.

I have timed them by finding TDC (or in Chevyese UIC) for # 1 cylinder with both intake and exhaust valves closed (firing position) and then adjusting the points to just starting to open on no 1 cylinder rotor position with the advance/retard lever in the fully retarded position.

Finding TDC is easy. Rotate the engine until the No. 1 cylinder (nearest to radiator) exhaust valve opens and closes, then the intake opens and closes, rotate slowly with a wire or screw driver in the spark plug hole resting on the top of the piston. When the piston is at its highest point is # 1 TDC.

If the rocker cover is still fitted remove #1 spark plug and place your finger over the hole, rotate crank by hand, when you feel compression against your finger follow Chippers instructions.

Good suggestion Tony. Just make sure that you don't let the engine crank over another revolution before it stops.

Thats why I said rotate by HAND. It also allows you to "rock" the crank if you go past TDC.
