I was told that the 1933 Master Chevrolet 5 window coupe vin plate would normally be located on the passenger side floor.

The tag has two lines, the top line is the actual VIN?

What info is displayed on the second line, and what do the digits indicate?

Thanks

Ed

There was no such thing as a "VIN" in 1933. It is called a Car Serial Number.

The serial number plate is located on the passenger side main sill, under the floor mat, and the top line has the series...such as "Master" for example.

The second line (or bottom line) has the car serial number which consists of numbers and letters. The digits indicate the factory number in which the car was made, the series, the date of manufacture and the number of the run in that particular factory.

Check out the second photo from the left at the top of this page right under "Chevy Chatter II" and you will see an example of a later car serial number plate.

Yes....but it is not the right serial number plate for your application.

Anyone have a picture of what a 33 Master 5 window plate looks like?

I believe the plates look the same for several years from say 1931 or so to 1936. As previously stated, the model is on the first line and the serial # on the second.
A fellow on ebay sells these from Argentina and even stamps them for you for about 25.
They are most always missing on the cars, as to the stupidity of their location.

Was told the plates were made with a zinc based metal and located on the floor right where the northern elements ate them up.

I have a feeling eBay has put a squash on them...been looking fot plates, tags etc without luck.
